Fun Toys

Postby Waelos » Fri Feb 09, 2001 11:09 pm

Some folks have been requesting a list of some of the fun things I found/had. I can't post stats or where I found 'em, but here's what Waelos wore in his 'Gonna kill the Manscorps King' mode! (this is actually taken from Zmud a few moments after I found out about the closing!' If anyone else has any fun toys they'd like to share, please do! Of course, no stats or quest details!

iron crown of the fire giant warlords
golden eyes of the dwarven kings (magic)
a scorpion earring
a scorpion earring
the mask of the scorpion (illuminating)
a string of Ayuruk's tears (magic)
a necklace of glittering shells
a suit of ancient green dragonscale armor
a shimmering cloak of dragonscales (magic)
a deerskin quiver
a chainlink girdle (magic)
a set of grey-green bracers
an ancient holy bracelet of Netheril (magic)
an ancient holy bracelet of Netheril (magic)
a pair of gold dragonscale gauntlets (magic)
a gold white gemstone ring (magic)
a gold white gemstone ring (magic)
a glittering elven scimitar (magic)
an astral-forged mithril longsword (magic)
a pair of studded hydra hide leggings
a pair of icebear boots

Most of that is pretty standard stuff. Some other interesting things I found laying around (some of the names might not be exact, sorry)

A black bladed longsword with a silver basket hilt (proc'd acid)
a cloak of bloody Render's fur
an icy dagger of Saukuruk
a gnarled staff of Pahluruk
the ceremonial robes of the Blue Bear Cult
a shield cleansed with Tempos' blood
the ceremonial robes of the Griffon Cult
the ceremonial robes of the Thunderbeast Cult
a suit of troll-hide armor
the ceremonial robes of the Cult of Larue
a black-hafted broadsword stained with blood
the ceremonial robes of the Black Lion Cult
an enchanted gythka of the thri-kreen
a slender elven moonblade (2 one was green, one was blueish . . . one was once called Swiftwind, the other called something like whisperwind (it was on ID, but did not hold an official name)
gauntlets of the Greyhome guardians
glimmering chainmail
a sandstorm mask
a longsword of rippling flames
a longsword engulfed in black flames
a gleaming falchion
a doll
a silver spoon

Thats all I can recall for now...at least of the 'interesting' things. Unfortunately I didn't log much of it. I'm hoping that someday, I'll be able to log it all for posterity sake, or have someone log it for me (hint hint beg!) Hope this is somewhat enjoyable for those who requested it!

Waelos, collector of things.

It is! Gawd damn, Waelos for president!

a string of Ayuruk's tears (magic)

Me must find out what it is!

Here's one other item I only saw once. Gurgn had it:

<worn on body> A rolling Stormcloud of elemental Thunder

It must have been pretty darn good to wear it over elven platemail / dragonscale armor

Lost,

Since some of us only played sojourn a few months before closing and never really figured any quests out, why not share some "Lost quest tips 101". I.e. did u try to talk to every mob you saw? Were quest tips only in the descriptions? Were most of the quests on wandering mobs? When "rares" are mentioned, is it a rare equipment, rare mob, or both? What was the toughest quest you ever completed (without mentioning the mob/equipment)? I.e. just spread some tips for the "little lost" peeps :P

Talk to every mob you see. Look at every mob and READ the description thoroughly for hints, e.g.

'blablabla stands here blablablablabla he seems to be writing a parchment on shells blablablabla blablabla'

You would ask him 'shells' or 'parchment' and of course the normal 'hi'.

Ask all mobs 'hi'. Every time you see a mob somewhere which you didn't see before in that place, look at it and talk to it, it might be a rare. Yes, rares are items which load on mobs which rarely show up, perhaps once every twentyfive system boots. In short, just talk to everything you see, especially mobs which are normally not there, and look for things out of the ordinary.

One more tip, all that is fine and good unless of course you are dealing with zones created by demented and evil area people. *cough*UnderdarkRiverRuins*cough*

Strange mobs that don't respond, doors without keys... So here's a Grom tip - if after searching every room 20 times, talking to every mob, killing everything and searching it and things still don't make sense - give up and don't turn it into a personal obcession.

Oh and just so I am on topic here: my silly toys that I loved so much - not quest items but I just loved the name. ;)

my only toy
<primary weapon> a broadsword of dancing shadows

As your broadsword connects with the goodie scum, it erupts in a burst of shadows which bath
him in a dark cleansing pain. Image

As you whisper to your dagger of oblivion, it begins to pulsate
with a nimbus of blood-red unholy light, from which thousands of sinewy
tendrils creep forth, embracing Mahdrel and smothering his lifeforce before
your eyes.
You receive your share of experience.
Mahdrel is dead! R.I.P.
Your blood freezes as you hear the rattling death cry of Mahdrel.

A dark viscous mist exudes from your dagger and envelops the fresh corpse.
Your embalming preserves corpse of Mahdrel for 500 additional hours.
You breathe life into corpse of the Mahdrel with the awesome power of your art.
The wraith of Mahdrel starts following you.

I like named items. I dont like that some folks get them and others will never be able to acquire them. Named shit becomes a focus for awe and jealousy. I dont think we need anymore of either in the game; it just gets ugly.

If we are going to have named items, I think the basis should be more objective. I'd be in favor of a system where people could get things restrung based on some sort of measured effort (be it plat, zone creation, multiple copies of the same item, a great story, helping newbies out, ect...). Id like there to be some way to tell whether an item is restrung by looking at it.

I dont think first person to get an item should get it named. Some would say its a reward for having good knowledge and effort, those are their own rewards.

To add to something mentioned above. I've found mobs that don't respond to "hi." I typically ask any potential quest mob "hello" and if they don't respond to that, I move to "hi" and "greetings." There are some out there that respond to "greetings" and not the other two. If they don't respond to any of those three, then use clues from their description, their room description, or from various room descriptions in the zone.

dagger of oblivion is not

a dagger named 'oblivion'

or

Oblivion, the necromantic dagger

or

Oblivion, the dagger of smack yo' mamma

it's just a dagger of oblivion, lowercase.

You bludgeon a gigantic werewolf to death.
a gigantic werewolf is dead! R.I.P.
You receive your share of experience.

(primary weapon) a silver spoon
(secondary weapon) a dinner knife

I was the first to figure out a couple of the BGR quests, back when I was cataloging them. Never found anything worth the trouble.. some good rogue sleeves, a bard hat, some pathetic weapons I think. I also had the second copy of a lot of things last wipe... chainlink girdle most notably. And the majority of those "seconds" were due to friggin Waelos having EVERYTHING :P

Ragorn gets a new toy from his bag.
Ragorn says 'this is so cool! I love this thing!'
Waelos gets a new toy from his bag.
Waelos winks at Ragorn.
Ragorn frowns.

QA... Questaholic's Anonymous?

Those blasted BGR quests!!! Let's just say I give up. I haven't been out there to quest any of those mobs for a long time now. Finding out I'd spent as much time on them as I had only to learn how many were broken just wiped me out on them. I still have bags and bags of trinkets and garbage I've quested in and for that zone. Never got one item that was really worth the time I spent on it, except for the satisfaction and relief of actually being able to mark one off my list.

::Ashiwi attempts to don her cool looking BGR quest items in order to shuffle off into the sunset in style, but finds, to her frustration, that she can't wear most of them. Her shoulders slump and she pulls a wet towel from her sack, crooning to it softly, "Oh towel, only you understand me," before wrapping it around her shoulders, popping a silver spoon in her mouth, and plodding off down the road.::

Yeah.. there's a quest out there with three quest items, only one of which spawns in the BGR/Skull Road area, and two of which are rareloads. The quest mob himself is also rareload. After about three months of looking for items and getting lucky, I completed the quest and got some rogue-only sleeves that were roughly equivalent to buffalo-hide sleeves that load every boot in Ako.

Many BGR quests ask for two items which are fairly obvious and usually from the zone, and one item that you have to search far and wide for.

Heh i remeber doing the harp earring quest in ZK. Pain in the ass rares that never loaded.
Quest mob is rareload with a jailer outside (stab mob) that holds key to his cell. Ummm and the guards assist...and then you got to have the rareload q-items too....pain pain pain.

So anyone do that quest this wipe? Image

i would REALLY like to hear that.

Think you helped out a few times Waelos, we usually checked ZK then went to Castle Drulak to check if any of the longswords loaded Image ahh those were the days!
Almost feel like start mudding again.

c ya!
