Armor Class!

Postby Frensolith » Sat Oct 04, 2003 2:35 am

Since its possible to have AC better than -100, is there anychance we can have that real number displayed under att instead of it being -100 at best when you know its a little better? :P

Frensolith, who frequently has < -100!

Until a god comes out and says that you can have ac below -100, I will choose to believe that it's a myth.

it's not a myth. watch any well equipped grey elf warrior or test your tankage at -60 ac with blur, -100 ac without blur, and then -100 ac with blur. do some tests and quit being lazy

AS far as I know, blur doesn't lower your ac, it lowers your tohit...

Your effective AC can never drop below -100.

However...there are lots of other adjustments in the combat code that can make you harder to hit. It's far more complex than just comparing hitroll to AC. Spells, skills, racial bonuses, position, etc can all contribute to how hard to hit you are, but they can't be quantified and added to your AC rating in any logical way.

Hope that makes sense. :)

Ok, thanks for the responce!

but one quick question, if i have -100 ac, wearing more ac gear wont help then correct? or spells that only improve ac like armor/bark?

I think it can help to wear more AC in cases where your agility bonus is negated/reduced, such as when you are bashed or stunned or blinded etc.

See Dalar, anyone who checked their ac after getting a blur cast on them could see that it wasn't lowering their ac. I remember back to Sojourn3 alpha when the gods were checking our groups' combat performance against mobs and they would display a list of all these different modifiers to combat, and there was a lot more than ac vs hitroll. Now I expect everyone who ever argued with me that ac could go below -100 to send me the money they bet on that fact.

actually i was told that blur sent you below -100 ac and players couldn't see it by a high level coder.
