Top of the Tower of High Magic
Elevated nearly a hundred and fifty feet from the ground, the several small
windows here offer a fantastic view of the city beyond. Rows of arcane
magical texts in oaken bookshelves line every wall in this place of high
magic, obviously used by mages studying the art. There is a huge desk
near one wall, with a high backed chair behind it. Illuminated by the glow
of many small orbs, this room radiates magical energy, as if a gate to the
positive material planes was somewhere close by. Against the east wall stands
another kind of portal, an ovular gate to place elsewhere in the city. It
stands about seven feet high and resembles a mirror in many respects, except
for the fact that another mage's study can be seen on the other side. Colors
that span the entire spectrum dance all along the edges of the portal. A
marble staircase leads downwards from here into the lower levels of the tower.
Exits: - Down
The portal glows with a miriad of vibrant colors.
Khelben Blackstaff, high master of sorcery, stands here ready to train you.

****** End of Log ******

I don't see why a Paladin would assist a boar for starters, much less one that would attack people walking thru the forest. If anything the Paladin would have smote the Boar as its his knightly duty to protect the innocent.

I was advised this was caused due to twinking, and nothing can be done, but i believe there must be a way to !assist animal on mobs.

Yup, it has to do with the whole problem of mobs with the protector flag assisting -any- other mobs that are in the room. You could have a -1000 align demon attacking you there and the paladin would assist it instead of just watching.
On those same lines, however mobs are set in Split Shield, it is done very nicely, since the guards do NOT assist the dogs, wolves or wargs.

For almost 2 1/2 years, nothing has been done. 8( Not sure about this assisting though, Ensis may be right... Dwarf assists, not sure on pally,
if you aren't evil, it did assist,
if you are evil 'Suck IT'

It happens in a lot of places. I was attacked by a troll the other day, which is definately evil, and some pally assisted. This was somewhere on the moonsheas. And I'm good-aligned. It would make sense that the pally would assist me, since I didn't start the fight, and since i'm good and the troll is evil.

Actually...this has been fixed and un-fixed several times over the years. It's generally ended up getting changed due to abuse and/or unintended mob behavior. I'll take yet another look at it and see if we can get it fixed for good this time.

Okey, I gonna make a list of places I've seen this.

EM
Sylvan Glade
Forrestals/townfolk assist gibberlings,werewolf/bear/rat, global load troll with a sack, manticore, stirges even against other elves.

Elemental Glade
Almost everything will assist same list above, whether they are good or evil.

GreyCloak
Elven warriors assist Yuan-ti, which are evil invaders of the area, against other elves, but don't protect Cathshee, brownies, sprites, dogs... all of which are good alignment and native to the area the elves are protecting.

Hrmm, must be forgetting something, oh well... I post more of them as I remember.

Hm.. prolly need some new code to do it? I remember in bloodstone the guards used to assist players and a bunch of guys used it to powerlevel themselves. You could get watchers and guardsmen fighting and just watch till one got really bad and get the kill shot and free bloodstone bonemail.

Now you can't plevel yourself but you have good guys assisting bad guys etc.

Is there a way to code it to where mobs assist the right people again, but a player can't abuse it?.. Take a percentage of the exp, disappear the EQ, somethin.

This happens in the Druid Sanctuary also with the treants. I've seen them assist aggro tracking mobs that aren't even from the zone, instead of just their druid master.

I can see how some might twink having a pally assist them against some deamon, or against an world tracking mob, but can they be coded to assist "relevant" aligned Mobs only?
A palading should assist any Neutral - Good mob that Isn't agro.
An Anti-Paladin should hel Evil Mob only.
Animals should not be assisted unless belonging directly to the mob, and then they seem to be half flagged with !Kill like the mount on Nightfall trail.

I am Neut aligned and to have an Paladin spank you to protect an agro boar is just a little confusing.
I am not evil or he would have attacked me about 2 hours earlier when I was memming in a room with him. He simply jumped me for defending against an agro animal that jumed me.

I didn't see:
A paladin of Ilmater says 'To battle one of us, is to battle us all!'
A paladin of Ilmater assists a wild boar heroically!

But would have loved to have seen:

< 277h/413H 106v/111V >
< T: Nolo TC: few wounds E: wild EC: excellent >
Your glowing crimson dagger bathes the room in eerie crimson light as a scathing beam

a wild boar nearly trips and falls.
a wild boar pales as your glowing crimson dagger draws green energy into itself.
The dagger bursts into brilliant crimson fire which flickers through you and vanishes.
You feel more agile.
A paladin of Ilmater and friend of Lord E notices the dagger you are wielding as his friend's family treasure and concludes the death of his friend and your vile actions in the matter you deviously bad person you!
You land a mighty pierce on a wild boar!
Your awesome pierce causes a wild boar to gasp in pain!
A wild boar misses you with its bite.

< 278h/413H 107v/111V >
< T: Nolo TC: few wounds E: wild EC: few wounds >
A paladin of Ilmater stands to the side evaluating how best to bring his holy smackdown upon your hizzazz.

< 278h/413H 107v/111V >
< T: Nolo TC: few wounds E: wild EC: nasty wounds >
A paladin of Ilmater says 'I'm gonna put the smackdab on your candy ass evildoer!'
A paladin of Ilmater sends you sprawling.

Or maybe it was just:
A paladin of Ilmater says 'Ack! Red Aura! Kill it!'

Can't make it right now where mobs assist players of similar race. The code needs to be more in depth. Why can't they just switch it? Because we go back to the days of folks attacking a gate guard of similar race and watch as the other gate guards assist you in attacking the one. You flee. Come back and assist one of the 3 who assisted you. Very twinkish.

It would be interesting to see a more dynamic assist code. Perhaps going this way would lead to less abuse?
What if the protector flag for mobs made it so they could see an aggressive flag, or even types of aggressives. If the mob the player is attacking is just generic aggro, the mob assists the player if the player is of similar good/evil race-ness. If the mob the player is fighting has aggro flags similar to the protector mob, then the protector mob assist the mob against the player?

I was recently on MS, in the area with the sister knights. The troll with the sack attacked me, Brigit (or whatever the leader's name is) assisted the troll and called in all her friends and killed me. Yarash is a neutral aligned human mage. They shouldn't love me, but I would think they should attack the troll before me.

Also drunks in bloodtusk.

Here guards dont assist dogs etc, but they assist drunks, even though it was the drunk that started the fight

There is no spoon! Errr, i mean red aura

Postby Shailar » Wed Oct 08, 2003 9:08 am

People keep assuming my Enchanter is Evil. She is neutral. Her alignment is between 60 and 90 depending if I have been smiting dock masters that day or not. She DOES NOT have a red aura.. She is not an evil race or class. A Paladin shouldn't attack a Neutral, Human Enchanter. A Necro maybe, a troll/ogre/drow probably, but a neut char, also a no.

Again, for the people that are having issues with reading in english, Nolo in not EVIL, Ebil, !Good/!Neut, or however you see an dark aligned char.
