So we wont answer when people send us tells, and make them wonder where the heck we are!

Because when I am forming a group I send tells to everyone online and get about 50% of people completely afk. Thus over doubling the time it takes to form a group because if I send a tell to one chanter or other class inviting them, I am going to wait a little for a response rather than just ask the next person in line so as not to insult them by asking then turning them down. It is very annoying and makes me either A: never ask you to group, B: get bored and not group. This goes for not only experienced leaders, but I have heard the same complaint from new players looking for groups.

I agree, this can be somewhat annoying.

I can understand folks may want to stay online for reasons such as:
logging acc, ooc, nhc, gcc, acheron, tells, etc. to save/peruse the info later, and kinda stay in touch with what's going on.

I cannot understand it if the reason is to purely increase:
"Playing time: 894576 days / 15 hours/ 35 minutes" :p

Regardless, if you are idling and/or afk and/or unwilling to group, please make a simple tell reply trigger advising such.
And thus, when groupformer sends you a tell asking about grouping, and they get an automated reply along the lines of "I'm really afk atm" or whatever, groupformer can promptly try and ask another in your place.

Pssst.

What's annoying is when people don't set their idle command to be 'save' so that when they are AFK for these long periods of time it shows they are AFK, and anyone sending you a message will get the 'so and so is AFK and might not get your tell' message. So you'd know they weren't there and were just staying logged into have a message service via the mud.

But do most people do this?

Nooooooooooooooooooooo.

Wanna whine? Why not whine about that? :P

Solution A: Set your idle command to 'save'
-or-
Solution B: Set a capture command and auto reply to anyone sending you a tell about how you're not there and such. (Like Oteb's)

If indeed this is why people idle, they should stop displaying this line in score info.

A tick timer to stay logged into the mud and not break AFK

Actions/Tick Timer
Timer Interval: 445
Timeout Margin: 0
Timeout Command: save

An Auto Reply Trigger:
Pattern: (%1) tells you '(%2)'
Value: tel %1 I am AFK idling, tell recorded.

here's an alternate ;)
(%w) tells you (*)
#window TELLS
#cap tells
tell %1 You have reached my answering machine. I am unable to answer you're tell. I will get back to you as soon as possible. Have a nice day :)
#add msgs 1

if you put it with a class of tells(tell) here's how you can turn it off and on :)
put it on a button :
#yesno (which) { on:#T+ tells
#sa amswering machine on. }
{ off: #T- tells
#sa answering machine off. }

Here's a really really easy way to make an afk trigger!

pattern: tells you

Value:
reply I'm currently afk, will get back to you!

That takes like two seconds!

What's wrong with there being more people visible to new players? Wouldn't you leave immediately if there were only a couple people ever visible to you, regardless if they were actually there?

Get a life, you do things your way and we do things ours. Next you'll want to rent if they afk at all.

Danahg tells you 'yeah, luckily i kept most of it in my mouth and nasal membranes, ugh'

Dlur group-says 'I have a dead horse that I'm dragging down the shaft with my 4 corpses. Anyone want to help me beat it?'

Wow that made absolutely no sense....

Whether they are visisble is not at all an issue, its the fact that when people send them tells (specifically newbies) they get no response, so they think they are being ignored by some asshole prick. Another issue as Sarell mentioned, is slowing the formation of groups.

Having an auto-response trigger while afking for long periods of time
is something every responsible muder should remember.
Rrimos OOC: 'im afraid to fart cause i might poo'
Bippe OOC: 'i've been there...your at work right'
Kossuth OOC: 'rrimos sharted'
Alurissi OOC: 'hey shevy! do farts have chunks?'
Toarn OOC: 'I'm just here for the intellectuals.'

Good christ, slowing the formation of groups? There's an f'in LFG channel and flag now for christ's sake, how much more help do you people need?

And every responsible mudder should have an afk trigger? Wtf for, if you don't get a response, move on to a new person... can't be that difficult.

And as far as newbies go, how many muds have you played? Every place I ever played I got ignored for a long time, I dealt with it and played anyway assuming there was a decent pbase to at least be seen. Fully half the list of people playing is going to be afk or away from the screen these days. So you want people to log in to seeing 15 people playing? Good luck getting people to stay that way.

You play how you do, and I'll play how I do.

I'll stay logged in to charge some ridiculously long charge time proc items =) Cuz mostly they're busted and should probably charge in 24min considering the power of the proc (cloak, cough, cloak). =)

There, now Waelos has a good reason!!!!

It is REALLY a big pain when forming groups, I don't want to send a tell to one chanter wait 2 seconds, send to the next, then have both want to be in group. I also don't want to send a tell to one chanter, wait 10 minutes cos they are afk and never coming back. It might only be a minute wasted on each person, but when looking for a group of 15, ask 30 people, that adds up to 30 mins. In mean time group falls apart. It sucks. If you are one of the people I know are generally afk I just dont ask, too bad if you were actually at keys, but it is spreading and is annoying with very little reason to do it. If you do have to, please tog afk or make a response trigger. BTW, if you are afk and have LFG togged I am tracking globals to you, enjoy :P

Your trigger to reply to tells should then retog afk to turn the flag back on. Personally I use the time command triggered of autosave to keep myself logged in. Though I'm rarely afk, I always log off if i know i'm going to be afk a while.

Speaking of the LFG flag..

Please don't leave it togged on when you aren't LFG and/or you are just idling and mega afk.
Please.
