The best football in the world..
Yes, we are on the eve of arguably the best competition of football of any code on the planet, for another year..
The southern hemisphere's Super 12 Rugby Union competition is shaping up to be another fantastic tournament, and certainly ample reason to once again slip into the Friday evenings routine of nice cold schooners of black whilst kicking back enjoying the spectacle.

This is the best code of football of all, especially so since the Super 12's format encourages "aggresive" (offensive) play with a bonus point for scoring at least 4 tries in a game.
It's a shame they cannot co-ordinate several european teams to join this comp as well, as the Welsh and French would surely give us a run for our money more often than the stinkin' South Aftican teams... ;)
Mmmm... Go the NSW Waratahs, and bring it on!

Speaking as an Englishman born and bred, the correct name is "Rugby Football". Funnily enough, the organisation which handles competitive rugby is the "Rugby Football Union" (RFU).
Thus Mogr is absolutely right to call it a form of football. I'm not sure I'd agree with his definition of "the best competition of football of any code on the planet", and you'd understand why if you went to see a Gaelic Football match. But that's a totally different story.
For the Americans among you: Rugby Football is like what you call "Football", except with more violence and less pansy full body armour. :P

What is this...hockey...you speak of?
I thought the NHL banned all hockey for the rest of the season until we could get our nunchucking and computer hacking skills up to par.
*sigh*, if the coach had put me in 4th quarter, we woulda won state!
*rofl yaya*

I once threw a football over a quarter of a mile.
What you bet I could throw a football over those mountains?
That's what I'm talkin' about.
Danahg tells you 'yeah, luckily i kept most of it in my mouth and nasal membranes, ugh'
Dlur group-says 'I have a dead horse that I'm dragging down the shaft with my 4 corpses. Anyone want to help me beat it?'
Calladuran: There are other games to play if you want to play with yourself.

Is that so? So what you call league. Rugby Football League?
I come from downunder and I tell you, down there we call it Union or League.
The name 'Football' applied to it is just a media hype to try sell it. Like the silly american football. The name 'Throwball' should be more appropriate, but go and try sell that.
Cheers

PS: the reason I adopted 'Sunless' title is coz, I now live in England (where the best football is played) and the sun doesnt shine here very much!
Looking forward to the charity match tomorrow - Northern vs Southern hemisphere. Just a shame it's in the middle of both the Six Nations and the Super 12's. There was talk of a regular fixture of this type but nothing was ever agreed. And, certainly, nothing will be agreed in England until the RFU and the clubs can sort out their differences. Politics, eh?
I've got my day planned. Quite beer with the children while we watch 'Daddy's Rugby'. Meanwhile the video is on to record the match. Later that evening (children in bed, hopefully) we invite friends over to watch the recording. Not ideal, I grant you, but better to watch the match with people who understand it, rather than 3 yr olds saying "Look! Daddy's Rugby!" *hehe*
It would be nice if a bi-annual competition (as discussed via the IRB)
could be arranged between northern and southern heisphere teams, be they international or club, but I do understand the players point of view that they are being worked to hard at present. I have many ideas about how that could be resolved but maybe it would be better to reserve that for email for those that are interested, rather than boring the forums with my plans for the future of Rugby Union lol
Be good to discuss tomorrow's game though, ssar. Will be back as soon as I can...

Actually yes. My local team (the London Broncos) are part of the Rugby Football League. Any other questions?
