Seriously thought, there's a large difference between the self-entitlement that welfare recipients feel and that of the old-school players feel. I think the latter is more justified in their feelings for a few reasons.
Some of them have put a lot of work into this place (code, zones, rp events). They never demanded monitary compensation. Time = Money in this world, however -- at least in an implicit manner. For every zone they made, piece of code they slaved over, hours of admin babysitting, etc., these same people could have been dedicating themselves to something else such as another degree (better gpa), certificates, etc. Or quite possibly a second job. Who knows, but whatever the situation, these people chose to put their time into something they thought was useful. To let their work die is a slap in the face -- especially if they are still wanting to enjoy the fruits of their own labor.
You have to take into account that ownership is the forgers' in name only. This MUD, historically, has a loose sense of ownership in that it is something that trades hands under certain circumstances. Those circumstances in the past have been very similar to the circumstances that this MUD is in at this point in time -- lack of involvement and lack of desire of involvement. It is not anyone who posts here's fault that these are the current circumstances for this place, so I don't think anyone is out of line for drawing these similarities or asking for action.
On that note, it would be highly hypocritical for anybody to have not stayed at Miax's mud to be arguing with those complaining about the current situation. We all left miax's mud for a reason -- those are, for the most part, the same reasons people are feeling "self-entitled" now.
More importantly, how can you even begin to side with the current forgers given the implications of their silence? This place is obviously something that a lot of people want to survive. This place is beyond and larger than any one person (or three people). It is the forgers that are acting self-entitled when they believe that since they were the ones that the MUD was given to, as avak state, to become stewards -- to keep the dream going under the implication that they would, in fact, keep it going until it can not go anymore (lack of funds [players have and are willing to provide], lack of time [players have and are willing to provide], and lack of desire [players have and are willing to provide]) -- that they can just do with it as they please. Granted, they do have that power because of a contract, but, again as many people have stated, there is a moral obligation to follow the explicit and implicit terms of the contract that was, in effect, signed by the current forgers to Miax and the rest of the players to keep this place going. The forgers either no longer have the ability, time, or desire to do so; therefore, it is not without justification that the players and BBS members ask for action. And, given the inaction and selfish silence provided by the forgers, it is insulting that one does not just expect, but allow certain emotions to be aired when discussing something that has a great possibility of becoming the end or death of what some of us have been a part of for half of our lives. This game stopped being a game a long time ago. This place has become much more than a game to a lot of people, and to speak of it as just a game, is grossly misunderstanding what it is you and I -- and the rest of the posters/players -- participate in here or what the forgers allow to die or continue as the whim hits them.
I've never been one to post insults, hidden or not, to the forgers. I've never spoke out, for the most part, about anything concerning the game for a very very long time. The fact that I, and many others who have long since quit playing on a regular basis, are so up-in-arms about this situation should be a slight window into what this place means and what everybody here has invested in this place -- the forgers being the sole investors and therefore owners of this place, with this in mind, is entirely laughable at this point in the evolution of torilmud. As I said in my previous posts, the arguments of ownership and money are poor arguments at best. So, if people are being pissy, self-entitled, rude, harsh, emotional, etc., there is a damn good justification for it at this point.
