There are some legitimate uses for !ID, but in general using it on a standard item isn't something I particularly like. I don't forsee removign the flag itself, but I'm open to stripping it off of specific equipment that has no legitimate reason to have it. Shall we start a list here?

Was thinking tempus shield is !ID. Why make its weight/stats !ID?

The wands, potions, and scrolls in bryn were all made !id for a reason. I'm not overly against them having their !id status removed, although I find it hard to believe that a fairly low level spell can be used to figure out the stats/spell names/ect on anything in the realms, even items that are far more powerful then said low level spell.
Of course, I could also be trying to use logic in a place where we all know logic means nothing, hehe.

I find it hard to believe, just the same, that shopkeepers won't reveal anything of an item's ability other than the (*) Some of those scrolls or wands were nearly 1k plats that were !ID.
Much like how Shev refused to reimb wolfbane pot because it was quaffed while normal and not in wolf mode. Although it wasn't me that it happened to, it seems ungawdly unfair that 10k from such an established player who does nothing but help people. When it was time to help said person, 'tough luck' - boo! Anyway,

The shop keeper might very well know what the items do, but might wish to keep the full details of them to himself as to make money off those that are intrigued by their mystery. On the other hand, he could lose money as well because some people aren't willing to take the risk of spending 1k for an armor portion. It could also be that these shopkeepers are just that. They get the goods from an outside source and possibly don't know what the items do. That does happen IRL.
As I said, I'm not adverse to changing them to be id-able. However, most things that cost a good amount of cash are also worth it, or at least I'd hope they were.

There are a number of items that Dugmaren has changed that we're just waiting to migrate from test to main. It should be in pretty soon.

Changed a bunch of these. There's a couple I didn't change on purpose (dagger of oblivion for instance) because I think it fits the theme / power of the weapon to leave it boggling your senses.
Also I didn't change potions or scrolls. I agree that there's a bunch of things that should be IDable, but by the same token I'm not going to spend hours changing flags on newbie gear that nobody uses anyways.
That said feel free to post more requests on objects that are still NO_ID.

What about creating a scroll with a greater identify type of spell that would allow you to ID a !ID item? Make it cost quite a bit or put it on a rareload global so they weren't all over the place. Could be a pretty decent plat sink. The only problem, I think, would be that everybody shares every piece of info nowadays, so they'd get used less and less as time goes on.

there's absolutely no point to it as it will just get used for about a month or two then unused till a new noid item comes in.... and it encourages people to keep writing gay !id items which is what we're trying to avoid. only items that should be !id are items flagged as switches/portals and the like with no extra stats... preferably only the !take ones.
if you make a weapon and want people to have to figure out the keyword for proc or when it procs just dont add it to the id list codewise.
if you want people not to locate your item give it a single common keyword or just flag it !locate. period
