Can anyone explain the whole Sojourn/Toril saga

Postby rhogben » Wed Jun 26, 2002 11:18 pm

I'm trying to remember which I played/liked more. It's been a long time you know and well...

one big happy toril.
people cry. good people hate bad people.
duris kill people.
sojourn love people.
sojourn bigger than duris, once.
now duris and sojourn about same size.

well if you click on about on the main page you can see the evolution:
Diku
Sequent
Copper
Black Knights
Sojourn 1
(Mud splits into 2, with differing ideas, and management)
Toril/Duris(pk)
Sojourn2/Duris(pk)
sojourn3/Duris(pk)

Duris only has more users than sojourn/Toril when its down heeh :P
duris typically has 1/3-1/2 sojourn's population.. but lets not get into a debate about the 2.. Image

Um this may be an ignorant question, but is Basternae different from Duris?

basternae is a clone of duris, so its sort of like sojourn's bastard half-brother

I remember long ago playing sojourn one, just sojourn then, and always seeing the wonderful message "welcome to sojourn where the journey will never end"... then I came home one day and logged in to something to the effect of "The journey has ended!"...
A hundred (yeah im po') plat to anyone that has the log of exactly what that said!

Heartbreaking, talk about a rough let down... wasnt a soft blow to say the least!

Basternae was what came around when Duris shut down, the same basic codebase but not quite a clone of Duris (different maps, race strengths, etc). BasternaeII that's around now is a totally different codebase (MagmaMUD).

Does that mean that Duris is still up? I've never been able to get through to their homepage(www.duris.org). I visited basternae2 recently and believe it was in alpha at that stage, you gain 5 levels for every real level of exp(drool).

The peeps in charge of Duris keep shutting down there website because it always becomes a flame/whine fest. Instead of fixing the problem like the peeps of Sojourn did they just shut it down. Basically Duris sucks now and they didn't want to hear about it.
