As for online games, the first one that I really got into was a MUD called Sojourn/Toril (this was around 1995 or so). Even though it was text based and free to play, I saw there the commercial potential for these games when coupled with graphics. I’d been working on single player computer RPGs for several years, and when the opportunity to combine them with MUDs came up, I jumped at the chance and began work on EverQuest.

... well a thank you would be nice... Image

I think everquest thanks Sojourn by name in its credits.

Power hath descended forth from Thy hand,

We will flow a river forth unto Thee,
and teeming with souls shall it ever be.

That article is years old . . . I thought all of the players knew that everquest is a sojourn off-shoot.

No Daz, actually that article was done within this past month. If you looked, you'd see the interview is about Brad's NEW company, Sigil Games. Soj is mentioned in passing as he discusses his gaming background, but the article itself is quite new.

As an aside, good luck with the new company if you're reading this Brad, it's been a while since we last spoke, but I'm already looking forward to it.

Ok, if you want to throw a hissy fit, I can pull logs of interviews with him where he says the same thing - and these interviews date over a year old.

You call that a hissy fit? You made an inaccurate statement, I corrected it. My motivation for doing so was moreso for people to check out the interview than to correct your misinformation.

I've got high hopes for his new company's success, for quite a few reasons, and would rather see people check out the article then to pass it by on the assumption that the info outdated. Thanks to the Nokie for dropping the link, its appreciated.

Yeesh.

Actually, i am ripping off and old SNL skit where they make fun of the new kids on the block. they're guests on Arsenio Hall, and they sing a song "GIRL, you are wicked AWEsome!" GOD i love that skit, it's pretty funny.

yea adam sandler was in that skit, but no i haven't seen MR. Deeds.

Well, just in case Brad's reading this: There's this certain coder who would really love to break into the gaming industry. Image

Rofl!!
You guys are like . . . . mass defecting.

Loyalty, a trait loved by employers. *snicker* If you want to break into the gaming industry, just do it. I am sure that more than one person on this mud has connections with at least one major video game developer (*whistle*) - Don't wait for a break, make one.

Actually "wicked" is an English thing!

Edit: SO is the word "hiya". i have never heard an american say "Hiya" all the time instead of HI. I guess some english person brought that to the mud eh?

want to break into gaming? http://www.blizzard.com/jobopp/

they have a lot of positions open, and most don't require a degree.. (some require industry experience, but not programming or art).. id personally like to break into game development.. i program.. but i really prefer coming with game designs/ideas doing background stories and things like that... but most places require experience in a commercially released game.. Image oh well.. ill work more on programming and maybe ill apply at blizzard eventually Image

I met some of the blizzard programmers at woodstock a few years back, one of em crashed at my place for a while. Really cool people, I am working on some certs and skills before I call in any favors tho - from what I hear, it is an awesome place to work.

Teyaha - That was my point of posting them, Someone posted a recent interview, I said "He has been saying that forever" - they responded with "that interview is less than a month old" - so I posted the links you are talking about. Them being so old is WHY I posted :P
