How long have you sat and re-rolled a new character?
How long have you sat and re-rolled a new character?
Just wondering...
90 hours is twice as long as it took me to PLAY Final Fantasy X.
And that's just to roll a character to play on Sojourn.
Sheesh, I stopped after 15 minutes and took whatever it gave me. Screw all that jazz.

I just tweaked the autoroller script a bit to sum up the averages of all of the stats you were looking for.
Using this method, I tried rolling a grey elf warrior. I said I wanted the first 4 stats (just like the old roller), but instead of the number of matches, I entered the sum of the values for the stats.. (ie choose 4 stats, all heroic, you'd want 4 * 7 = 28)
Deciding that all four mighties would be good, I set the roller to go for 24 or better.
It stopped in about 10 minutes with
STR: Heroic
DEX: Heroic
AGI: Good
CON: Heroic
I put all three on agi and wound up with
STR: Heroic
DEX: Heroic
AGI: Perfect
CON: Heroic
I should really put the link to that discussion up here, if I could find it.

when soj3 first opened they moved the bell curve of the stat roller to be higher likely hood of getting mighty+ stats.. (i think, so that ppl could just roll some chars and start playing).. i tried rolling again recently.. took me hours to get stats that i could have gotten before within like 20 mins.. (Maybe i was lucky before and unlucky now) but i think it was changed from when it first opened..

Con is by far the most important one, because a couple points in con translate to 50 hit points at level 50. Con is also the only stat you can permanently lose, so having an excess is never bad. Int and wis for casters are also fairly vital, they mean the difference between a 210 second mem and a 170 second mem at low levels. Higher int/wis can really make levelling under 20 go a lot faster.
Strength and dex are almost trivial. The difference between perfect dex and 80 dex is what, -2hit? Maybe your dual wield doesn't go off as often? And my god, there's so much +str and +dex equipment in the game it's silly. I rolled Ilisinth fully knowing that I would wear a shiny crimson ring. It gave me the leeway to accept a "fair" in dex as opposed to shooting for mighty.
It's entirely feasible for a warrior class to put on +20 or more strength and dex within the bounds of "good warrior equipment," so I didn't even worry about min/maxing Ilisinth.

When we reopened, and you could roll while you played, I took 8 hours to roll my bard. I was looking for good stats on top, and good int (cha was automatically going to be good), here's what I got:
STR: 83 AGI: 94 DEX: 89 CON: 78
POW: 45 INT: 80 WIS: 51 CHA: 91
good/heroic/mighty/fair
bad/fair/mundane/mighty
I've never had access to high level eq, so I based my rolls on the equipment I knew. And agi eq, at low levels, is somewhat limited, so I leaned towards higher agi scores. With the eq I have, now, I have all perfects on top, and int/cha. I know I don't wear as much +hp as others might, but, it works for what I've been exposed to.

Now, we can do this the hard way, or... well, actually there's just the hard way.

It's only certain classes that are insanely hard to roll! I find that clerical (shammy, druid) and bard are super hard to roll; Mages aren't too bad, cuz they so puny anyway as far as physical stats. No mage really tanks (psi's too) - the bard, as in my other post, is so hard and annoying to roll. Very annoying if you work and just want 'decent' stats. Average has crap for bonuses and it's a shame that you only see some stats have great bonuses at the high end. I'm kinda new here overall, so I'm giving my somewhat ignorant opinion. I absolutely love this mud and I think it's WAY better than any else I've seen. Also, the evil's are way nicer than any goody so far too, inasmuchas giving out eq and time/help (except for Godsend newbiehelper *our favorite druid we all know who that is ! =P)
