The Perfect Group?

Postby Thurg » Fri Jan 04, 2002 1:00 pm

well ive been playing since 2am (7 am now) and was wondering what everyone thinks the perfect group would be? i dont really care about evil/good crossovers like illithid with palidin so go ahead and post what you think would be best.

Seriously tho, uhmm... I would have to say a perfect group is one that doesn't get me killed, and everyone is working in perfect sync...
But back to reality...
Pally for tanking
Couple warriors for bashing/rescuing
Rangers for Archery
Cleric for fheal and ress
Shaman for gheal
Druid just because we're cool and can tear shtuff up in nature rooms
Invo/Chanter for damage/defense

depends on what your doing.

2 ressers (1 dueg, 1 snake)
2 ghealer (1 ogre)
1 scaler
1 displace/folder
3 tank/rescuers (2 trolls 1 ogre)
1 lich
2 invokers (drow)
3 squids

maybe substitue a rogue in instead of the third squid for 1way and pick/disarm/garrote, but massive area spells flying is good balance imo.

There is only ONE perfect group and it has NOTHING to do with what classes you take. The perfect group is the one that comes back and hands ALL the eq out to all the lowbies they would never take zoning in a million years.

Oh that's right I'm delusional..

Sorry all, going off topic for one post...

Taking lowbies zoning would be stupid, they'd be useless in zone and then die and be even less useful. Is that fun?

As far as handing out eq, some basic eq is nice to help you along, but people appreciate nice eq more when they get it themselves anyway.

Ya know, Jasix, most people had never heard of me before this wipe and most still probably still haven't. I levelled myself up, no pleveling. Once I got into about the 30's I started doing more eq runs. Once I got into the 40's, especially after 43 or so, I'm doing more zones. Keep in mind, I'm a friggin' ranger, not a cleric/ warrior/ enchy that are always needed, and I haven't kissed anyone's arse. I just try to be polite and fair to everyone (just like I do IRL), and pay attention to my job on the team. I've done enough zones that I'm starting to lead a little more myself now, and I only play about 7-15 hours a week.

I don't see these big problems with breaking into zone groups you keep compaining about, Jasix. Any problems you are having are likely of your own creation. You are the master of your own destiny. Take responsibility for your situation, and change it if you desire to.

Hey, Hey, Hey, can we get back on the subject here? I find it interesting, and I would like to read a little more on these "perfect groups". However at my minimal experience I probably shouldnt comment on my opinions of the "perfect group", and too, ive never been in an eq group yet. So please...I would like to read on... Thanks Image

Goodie Group, in my opinion Image

1 Paladin
2 Warriors
2 Clerics (Ressers)
2 Enchanters (Scalers)
2 Shaman (Gheals, Stuns)
2 Rangers
1 Rogue
1 Druid
1 Illusionist
1 Invoker

*agree Touk* diversity is good this wipe and I like that, too.

The perfect group depends on what you're doing, but for a group that's really versatile how about...

1 Paladin
2 Warriors
1 Anti-Paladin
1 Ranger
1 Rogue
1 Enchanter
1 Elementalist (Enchanter if they're not in yet Image)
1 Cleric
1 Shaman
1 Cleric or Shaman
1 Druid
1 Illusionist
1 Invoker
1 Necromancer

You got 4 potential tanks and a backup (ranger), 4 various healers (cleric, shaman, druid), 2 poisoners (rogue+anti), 2 hitters, 4 non-pc type tanks (tree, spirit, ellie, ghoul), lots of non-feedback area damage (shaman, druid, illusionist, invoker, necro), picker, 2 lurers (once rogues have range), 2 or 3 globers (enchies + necro) and hasters, 1-2 scalers + 2-3 stoners (Elementalist and Shaman stones), 1 displacer/folder... Whee! The list goes on what fun.

Like whay Rylan and Vippin had to say, I'll add experienced to that. I am working on that myself, and see what a difference having been through situations, and knowing the tactics is.

Having played a warrior in previous incarnations of Sojourn/Toril, I had only really ever worried about tanking, bashing, and rescueing. Glance bashing is about the most technically advanced operation a warrior has, and that's not saying much.

Being a shaman I've learned and am learning there are significantly more things you have to pay attention to and do. From the potentials of being a stoner, healer, and damage dealer, you get to often try to fulfill many roles at once.

With a well balanced group of experienced players, that is typically more focused on one roll with the others being in emergency use status.

Experience turns a spank into a successful run with few or no deaths.

heres what id try on the goody side

1 tank (anti/pal)
1 enchanter
1 folder/displacer
2 ressers (1 human hometown bg, 1 dwarf for getting to zones quick)
2 shaman
2 bashers/rescuers (dwarf or barb)
2 invokers
1 druid (half/elf hometown leuthispar for getting to zones)
1 lich

last 2, prolly 1 ranger/rogue for luring. Then either another anti/pal tank or another invoker, shaman or cleric for the last slot.

If i was going to be fighting lots of shrug mobs, i might drop the lich and at least 1 of the invokers for rogues/rangers.

Perfect group = Group that has a fun 2gether

Period.

Who cares if its balanced for the zone or that there were 27 deaths during the time together.

If its no fun, the most efficient group is crap imho.

if i were a lvl 50 cleric w/ 1k hp

perfect group would be

Dornax, Yssilk, Zip, Baldorak, Vjaerrak, & Rylan- cuz now i wont be needed to cast any spells
Yayaril- comedy relief
Targsk- cuz he's a tank who's more interested in dl p*rn then rescuing
Krolb- to remind Targsk to type w/ 2 hands
Teyaha- to cry & whine cuz he w/ evils that bag on him
Kiryan- so when u need a good nap, ask Kiryan, so what you think?
Jasix- to steal all the eq from the elite and handout to the newbies
Corth- cuz he my b*tzch, er... correction cuz he wont be my b*tzch
Bob- cuz he has trigger #act {bash} {bash}
Ranger, Bard, Elementalist- cuz they suck
Squid- cuz they "suck" *nudge* *nudge* *wink* *wink* know what i mean, know what i mean

well i think it's obvious, the perfect group cannot exist because, group limit is 15 and if my college math is right i need 18 slots

Perhaps group size of 15 is a couple too low, particularly on the goody side. Who would spare room for a conjurer or a bard?

*chuckle* I was taking the piss out of this post like i do with most others. I have a twisted sence of homour.

i didn't say take newbies zoning, they would surely die.. I said the perfect group would be one that came back and gave away everything they just spent 3 hours fighting for.. Am I the only one that things taking from the rich and giving to the poor is a bad thing? (yes yes they would get lazy and expect everything for nothing etc etc) But really would there be a group remeber more then one that came back and gave away EVERYTHING they got? Yes it would be sort of silly and pointless to zone if you gave away your bounty.. BUT we live in a fantasy world and shoot me for taking a moral twist on what i would consider a perfect group.... But we not here to make others think we are nice and generous, we here to get all we can and die with the most toys?

But to give the closest thing to a sensible reply to this thread. MY perfect group would be.
ALL LVL 50 NATURALLY
2 warriors to tank/rescue
2 clerics
1 shaman
1 necro with 3 wraiths to handle the globes
1 enchanter
8 monks

just avoid them damn wraith form mobs.
