I\'m sure this isn\'t right (turn undead)

Postby Elseenas » Thu Oct 25, 2001 6:18 am

I was screwing around with my spells earlier and...

< 165h/165H 120v/120V> cast 'turn undead'
You start chanting...
A tattooed duergar mercenary misses you with his hit.

< 165h/165H 120v/120V T: Amenha TC: excellent EC: excellent>
A tattooed duergar mercenary hits you hard.
A tattooed duergar mercenary misses you with his hit.

< 154h/165H 120v/120V T: Amenha TC: few scratches EC: excellent>
Casting: turn undead **

< 154h/165H 120v/120V T: Amenha TC: few scratches EC: excellent>
You complete your spell...
You raise your holy symbol and shout 'Begone!'
You force the skeleton of a scarred drow from this room.
The skeleton of a scarred drow attempts to flee.
The skeleton of a scarred drow shambles north.

< 154h/165H 120v/120V T: Amenha TC: few scratches EC: excellent>

I don't see any problems. It's a room spell that causes undead to flee.

Looks really useful against necros... if it works on mobs hard enough to care about that is... bye bye leetle pets!

Nah, thats about it for turn undead.. the spell kinda makes me laugh.
I'd sometimes use it as a joke in zones, because it doesn't work on anything :P

If it worked on anything above 5th level, you could use it as an aid in killing necro mobs when someone screwed up and let them re-animate their previous corpses.

But it doesn't.

Heh, the bug isn't that it fled the room.

The bug is that I was attacked by a COMPLETELY unrelated mob in the room for casting it!

ROFL I didn't notice that you weren't in combat before you started casting Image

You are right, that IS stupid, and for 2 reasons...

1. How the hell would that mercenary know you were casting an offensive spell? Does he attack if someone casts detect invisibility?

2. Clearly the spell wasn't even capable of harming him. I assume this would happen if you holy word in a room with a good aligned mob as well? Bleh.

Yeah, I've had good and neutral mobs get pissed off at my casting hold word also.

Hi all,

Okie i'm a troll warrior and i see a yuan-ti mage start to cast an offensive spell 'shyw shaye', which for me means, *hic* i better bash the crap out of this guy.

Now i'm a good allign cleric and start casting holy word with a good align warrior mob in it, all the mob sees is, moi casting an offensive spell 'hshe rhdy'. what is he gonna think? answer: bash that cleric.

Now in same situation but this time itz a good align cleric in room and sees moi casting offensive spell 'holy word', it should just laugh in my face or just teach me a lesson and beat the crap out of me anywayz Image I dunno, but has anyone tried this yet in a good aligned cleric mob Image

So, i cant see what's wrong with this bug/feature(all bugs are features, trust me i'm a programmer) logic? please explain.

IMO the logic flaw is that if you can't tell what a caster is casting as a warrior or other class without spell knowledge, how do you know what's being cast is an offensive spell at all? The chanting is the only indication of some sort of spell being cast, unless all casters on the mud are forced to go into a speech describing the spell they're about to cast before casting it like in a kung-fu movie Image

Tuga:

Also, if I am casting "cause critical" or "blindness" it is still an offensive spell, but every mob in the room doesn't come after me for it Image
