About Aram

Postby muma » Tue Jun 04, 2002 4:41 am

Well, Aram is being forced to change his name. Why? because it sounds like: A ram...

He's had that name for a while, and you know, I never even thought of it as "a ram" *shrug* it sounds just like "Aram" to me. A Roleplaying name. Maybe i'm just role-play illiterate. Any of you sojourners agree with me here? I think we can stop his name from being changed. Wouldn't it be annoying if you had to go around telling everyone who you were and then explain 100 times, "Because it sounds like 'a ram'" ?

Might as well change my name too, it sounds like: Mama.

Anyways, I know this is not my problem, but I just care.

I do not see a problem with the name Aram.

In fact I have to believe that it is one of the best roleplaying names I have seen to date...

mark a vote in the keeper box for me.....
Hope he gets to keep it.. he has had it for a long time now.

I kept thinking of Aram Fingel, a character from a bad late 80's, early 90's flick called 'Overdrawn at the Memory Bank' starring Raoul Julia as Aram. Think of Matrix, but dumbed down and with bad special effects! Good thing I watched the Mystery Science 3000 version or else I wouldn't have made it through the whole thing!

I agree with Xolan on this and not just cuz I have the name I do. And if Aram has to change his name that prolly wouldnt have had to have been changed if it were not pointed out by several other people on this bbs (forgot threads). Besides if Aram has to cahnge his name that means many players including me will probably have to also.
Just makes me wonder...

I remember when I played a bard. I really liked her, and she was approaching 24 or something when a much-respected person on the MUD pointed out that her name was similar to the name of a middle earth card. I'd never seen the card, owned one, and don't know which came first, the card or my bard, but it didn't matter. I had to change my name.

It was hard, it hurt, and I stopped playing her. It might have been different if I had had the opportunity to post the name change where my friends would be able to see it, though, and the name *was* in violation of the naming rules even if I hadn't known.

Given the recent unpleasantries between players and gods, I don't know if this could have been avoided. For that, I am sorry.

Doesn't matter how you change names, most of them refer to something or mean something.

Dalen was the suburb I spent my first years in Image

Doesn't appear from his post that Aram was that worked up about this change.

Nice way to go about it and in a role play fashion.

Knowing some of yayaril's "business aquaintances" I would think this was the most prudent move by the way.

Yeah, and I think Todrael was the name of the fourth tinker gnome (who only had one line, mind you) on the 'weapons research level' of Mt. Nevermind in book 3 of the second series in DragonLance! :)

Nokie is secretly starring in an off-Broadway production about El Kabong. He's gotta practice, y'know. So what better way than by wielding a guitar?

I was very worked up bout it. It would be different if i had just made the character, and Aram is a name favorite of mine. Not because it was in the wheel of time, or that i like rams/sheep/goats (Gormal!). But hey, what can a fella do? I tried to discuss it, and the decision still stood. Nothing to do but comply. I had thought of quitting the mud/mudding, i need to study harder for school and pay more attention too all the little annoying errands that have built up and this provided a good excuse to quit. After all, i had become attached to good ol Aram, my first and fav char. But sleeping on it, i realized that even tho i should pay more attention to school, i am a lazy SOB and a procrastinator so i would probably keep on playing. Therefore, Aram dies, and from his ashes rises Dalen. Just as long as no one tries to tell me it is in reference to "da alien" haha. No hard feelings, just a game! =)

LOL - No wonder there is an issue with names here. You all need to get out a little bit more! Go to a bar already.

Jesh. Who has time to memorize the obscure character names on Babalon 5 or some show on tv 10 years back?

If you have that much free time you should all be level 50 with a spanky set of gear!

Uh Todrael and Nokie are lvl 50 with the some of the best eq sets in the game. As for Teyaha well i think he has more than one char. B4 you make statements like "get out more" why don't you talk to these guys? I know for a fact Nokie goes out (because he tells sometimes tells us what he did the other night). As for Babylon 5 comment, imho you're almost insulting every player b/c who has the time to memorize all that stuff from Star Trek and Star Wars? Better yet, who has time to remember old school MUD names like Kurz, Tagad, Kanthas blah blah blah.

Also, the issue with names can be clearly solved by using _any_ search engine. That's how my rogue's name was traced.

It all depends on what sort of TV you watch, what books you read, what popular culture you expose yourself to. I know the name of one of the ambassadors to Babylon 5 because I watched that show for many of its seasons. It's like telling someone they're silly for knowing the name Lois Lane when they read Superman comics. She's integral to the plot, and in virtually every episode.

As for getting out, I may have the highest play time of any character in the game by far, but I still keep a very respectable grade point average, spend time with my family, and in general do what I want with my life, which tends to not involve going to bars, as I don't drink and don't have any friends that do.

used to shoot black and white on a leica a few years ago while learning photography.

everything i've posted now has been shot with a professional digital SLR camera, so black and white is not an option.

the top one was manipulated in photoshop to remove the color from the area surrounding the lead bike.
